Are you looking for the for real, ideal table? Look no further! The Ideal Table (Idealbordet) designed by Otto Wretling is just that!

Together with his brother Wilhelm, Otto Wretling (1876-1971) took over his father’s painting company in 1897. 1905 they expanded the business and included a cabinetmaking shop.

Wilhelm later took a step back, but Otto continued the business in Umeå now called, Otto Wretling Company for Modern Room Art (Firma Otto Wretling för modern rumskonst). At first on his own and then with the help of his children. The company closed in 1969.

In addition to being a manufacturer, Otto Wretling was the company’s first designer. The company designed its own furniture but also carried out orders.

The Ideal Table, was designed in 1936 by Otto Wretling and his son Bo. Since it had special functions; the table has a surface area which can be made smaller and larger and the table is also height adjustable; the company patented the design.

The tables came to look slightly different over the years, but they are usually made of mahogany and birch veneer with a central foot in black lacquered wood.
